PowerPoint from Daphene

What a wonderful surprise I got from Daphene today!

Daphene is from Brazil and she had sent me a card

of Copacabana Beach a couple of days ago.

Today she sent me a PowerPoint slide show

of the beautiful Christ the Redeemer statue

in Rio de Janeiro.

I had a hard time deciding which to put on my blog!

Another Private Swap

I received the following postcard of the port at Riga, Latvia

from my friend, Egita. Below you see the flag of Latvia and also the

stamp that brought my postcard.

Isn't this a great postcard?

I love the lighted ship. It looks like they

are having some kind of a celebration--and who doesn't

love a celebration!

This postcard comes to me from Egita in Riga, Latvia. She says

thatRiga is the capital city of Latvia and this is one side of the Riga port.

It is very close to the University where she attends and, therefore,

she goes here from time to time.

She also says that their coastline is longer than their landline!

She goes hiking with her friends along the seaside every year.

Egita, I would dearly love to go hiking with you!

You really do have a lovely country and I am sure I would love it!

Two Official postcards

I received the two postcards above since my last post.

The one at top is Bamburgh Castle. It is a magnificent Northumberland

castle which is built on a rock outcrop. It towers over Bamburgh village

and overlooks miles of golden sands and The Fames islands.

The card was sent to me by Gilly (reddevel-56),

who lives in Lancashire.

Thank you, Gilly. I do love the card! I would love to

go walking along the golden sands!

The postcard just below Bamburgh Castle is a view of the beach

along the Jersey shore. It is called Point Pleasant Beach.

This card came from Terry. The card is from New Jersey,

she mailed it from Oklahoma, and she said she would be stopping

in San Antonio in a day or so to see the Riverwalk. According

to her profile map, she lives in South Dakota!

A Card from my Penpal

This postcard arrived in my mail today

from my penpal, Sinikka. She is from Vaasa in Finland,

but she has been visiting her son and daughter-in-law

in Fuengirola on Spain's Costa del Sol. She said she

has been there ten days and doesn't know how much

longer she will stay.

It is a lovely postcard, Sinnaka, and I thank you!

This pretty Spanish stamp brought me Sinakka's card today.

Thank you very much, Sinikka, and I am looking forward to hearing

from you soon!

Jackpot!

I hit the Jackpot today when it comes to Postcrossing.

I received four beautiful cards in the mail,

and I also had three 'sent' cards registered.

This postcard came to me from Carime, who lives in Sao Paulo. However,

the picture is the famous statue of Christ, the Redeemer, on

Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro.

As I told Carime, I remember a picture of this statue in my geography

book when I was an elementary school student! I was impressed

with it then and I am still impressed.

The statue stands 709 meters above sea level.

Carime says many people think Brazil is just Rio de Janeiro,

but, she says, 'We are more!'

These four stamps brought the

postcard to me. The first is an occupational

stamp, a seamstress. Then there is a

stamp recognizing teachers. I'm not

sure about the stamp with the trumpet and

flags, but it may be remembering Carnival, for which Rio is famous.

The last stamp look like two manatees swimming.

I received this card from Daphene today. Daphene lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The picture shows the Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro,

and you can see Sugar Loaf mountain in the distance. It is the

tallest mountain in the picture. People used to buy sugar in loaves

shaped more or less like this mountain and they would just chop off

the amount they needed. This mountain was named for those loaves.

Below you see the great stamps that Daphene put on the envelope.

Brazil has evidently put out a series of stamps depicting various

occupations and we see, here, the carpenter and the shoemaker.

The third stamp is some kind of animal but I haven't been able to make it out!

'Back to the Old-Time Taiwan'

That is the title on this postcard that I received from
Ching-Chung. She says that it shows the most ancient
tree in Taiwan, and they call it the Sacred Tree. She
said that once this place was a train station called
'Sacred Tree Station.'

I like this card very much, Ching-Chung! Thank you for sending it to me.

I received this card today from Marina, who lives in Troisdorf, Germany. Itis near Cologne and Bonn. She was intrigued that I have moved so many times, but she said she has also moved a lot--8 times.

She chose this card because 'I think in all your life, you haven't seen this: Das Kolsche Jrundjesetz!' She said it is written in the accent of Colgne: Kolsch!

There was not enough space for her to translate the card, so she said 'maybe you will have a good time racking your brain!'

Well, I have racked my brain, looked through my German-English dictionary, and a few places on theinternet, and I still don't know what it says. I have

asked Marina to send me a translation, so, if she does,I will update this entry!
