Washington State

Two cards from Washington

These two postcards were sent to me by Deanna, who lives in
Maple Valley, Washington. The one directly above is a map card
of the state of Washington with some beautiful views
of the beautiful state.

Above it, you will see the card that has a picture of Mount St. Helens
on it. This volcano erupted on May 18, 1980, after many years
of dormancy. Magma had been rising inside the mountain for several
weeks, and then a 5.1 magnatude earthquake broke the bulge
loose, causing a massive avalanche. This avalanche released pressure from
gases, which resulted in an explosion. The blast created a 17 to 18 mile
fan-shaped path of destruction. The eruption rose 16 miles
upward, driven by a chain of explosions from within the mountain core.
The eruption continued for nine hours.
Thank you, Deanna for such nice cards!
